Artificial intelligence generates over 50% of online articles, according to new research. The study examined more than 65,000 randomly selected web articles of at least 100 words. AI-produced content primarily consists of news updates, how-to guides, lifestyle posts, reviews and product explanations. Francesco Agnellini, a lecturer in Digital and Data Studies at Binghamton University, State University of New York, notes this shift affects freelance writers who previously relied on creating blog posts, SEO text and social media copy. The research raises questions about distinguishing human-written content from machine-generated articles. Agnellini suggests that as AI becomes more common, original human writing may become more valuable. He warns that heavy AI reliance can narrow creative ideas and reduce individual writing styles.
