A new survey of 2,000 U.S. adults found 46% cannot resist sweet cravings by noon, with one-third rewarding themselves with sugary treats multiple times daily. Sweet foods dominated preferences at 47%, outpacing salty (21%), savory (18%) and bitter (13%) options. Baby boomers showed the highest sweet preference at 49%, followed by the Silent Generation at 51%, while Gen Z had the lowest at 43%. When choosing sweet snacks, 53% do so for self-reward and 37% for mood enhancement. However, 43% opt for healthier sweet alternatives, with 94% regularly eating berries.
