A large study of nearly 16,000 U.S. adults found no link between animal protein intake and higher mortality from cancer, heart disease, or any cause. In fact, each gram of additional daily animal protein was associated with a 5% lower risk of cancer death. Plant protein showed no survival benefits. The findings challenge previous research claiming high animal protein dramatically increases cancer mortality. Researchers used advanced methods to measure typical long-term intake, accounting for day-to-day diet variations. While the study cannot prove causation, it suggests widespread fears about animal protein’s effects on longevity may be misplaced. (Story URL)
